The Three Rivers Queen’s Journey to Cincinnati, OH!
Flowing through the heart of our nation, America’s rivers have long been the lifeblood of connection, commerce, and culture — and last week, they took center stage at the River Roots Festival in Cincinnati, Ohio. From October 8–12, the riverfronts of Cincinnati, Covington, and Newport came alive in a grand celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, honoring the waterways that helped shape our country’s story. Historic steamboats like the Belle of Louisville, the Steamboat Natchez from New Orleans, and the Belle of Memphis were joined with more modernized vessels like our beloved Three Rivers Queen, an engine-powered paddlewheel boat that continues to carry the spirit of river travel into today’s era. With music echoing across the water and a spirit of unity that flowed as strong as the Ohio River itself, the River Roots Festival became a living tribute to the roots that run deep through America’s past, present, and future.
Our very own Three Rivers Queen made a remarkable voyage to be part of this historic celebration. The modern paddlewheel vessel embarked on a three-day, 470-mile journey down the Ohio River, cruising from Pittsburgh to Cincinnati to join the fleet of iconic riverboats. The trip came with its fair share of challenges — from extensive prep work before departure to ensure every detail was shipshape, to an unexpected five-hour delay as the crew waited for dense morning fog to lift enough to safely continue downstream. Along the way, the Queen navigated 12 locks, each one requiring careful coordination and precision from the crew as she steadily made her way toward Cincinnati. Despite the long hours and unpredictable river conditions, the journey was filled with excitement and pride, as spectators gathered along riverbanks to cheer her on. The Three Rivers Queen’s voyage was more than a trip — it was a powerful reminder of the skill, endurance, and enduring legacy of America’s river travel.
